Apple pie

Apple pie

Preparation Time: 20 minutes Cook Time: 1 hour Total Time: 1 hour and 20 minutes Serves: 8

  • 2 9-inch unbaked pie crusts
  • 6 cups thinly sliced, peeled apples (about 6 medium apples)
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, cut into small pieces
  • 1 egg, beaten

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C), and place one of the pie crusts into a 9-inch pie dish.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the sliced apples, sugar, lemon juice, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Mix well.
  3. Pour the apple mixture into the pie crust, and dot with butter pieces.
  4. Place the second pie crust over the top of the apple mixture, and pinch the edges of the two crusts together to seal.
  5. Use a sharp knife to cut a few slits into the top crust to allow steam to escape.
  6. Brush the beaten egg over the top of the pie crust.
  7. Bake the pie for 50-60 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the filling is bubbling.
  8. Allow the pie to cool for at least 30 minutes before slicing and serving.
