Ingredients:
- 2 9-inch unbaked pie crusts
- 6 cups thinly sliced, peeled apples (about 6 medium apples)
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, cut into small pieces
- 1 egg, beaten
Method
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C), and place one of the pie crusts into a 9-inch pie dish.
- In a large bowl, combine the sliced apples, sugar, lemon juice, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Mix well.
- Pour the apple mixture into the pie crust, and dot with butter pieces.
- Place the second pie crust over the top of the apple mixture, and pinch the edges of the two crusts together to seal.
- Use a sharp knife to cut a few slits into the top crust to allow steam to escape.
- Brush the beaten egg over the top of the pie crust.
- Bake the pie for 50-60 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the filling is bubbling.
- Allow the pie to cool for at least 30 minutes before slicing and serving.
